Powerbreather vs POWERbreathe - What's the difference?

Recently we have been asked about a product called "POWERbreathe", very similar to our swim snorkel, the Powerbreather.

In order to avoid confusion in the future, we have decided to publish this article to clear up any confusion for our customers.

In short: Like the Powerbreather, the POWERbreath is a possible aid for athletes. We emphasize that it has nothing to do with our company. So the very similar product names are pure coincidence and not intentional. Nevertheless, we want to give you a brief overview of what the POWERbreathe is all about.

This is how POWERbreathe works

POWERbreathe devices are similar to commercially available inhalers, for example for asthma patients, but they work purely mechanically. Their sole purpose is to train breathing technique and breathing muscles. The device is mainly used in a resting position, ie without exercising a sport at the same time.

Different intensities can be set to reduce or increase the breathing resistance during use.

According to the manufacturer, the device can also be used to curb the production of lactate in the body immediately after exercise. Lactate is a substance that is released during high physical exertion and is responsible for the development of sore muscles, among other things. The production of this endogenous substance should be avoided or at least weakened with the help of POWERbreathe. In general, the device should improve the lung function and thus the performance in sports with regular use.

The POWERbreathe is used by people whose respiratory function is weakened or restricted by illnesses such as asthma or COPD. The device, with regular use, is intended to help the lungs restore and maintain their natural function, and to help certain professionals who work with specific protective equipment that makes breathing difficult (e.g. rescue workers and firefighters) to train their lungs .

Is the Powerbreather an alternative to the POWERbreath when training breathing techniques and muscles?

This question can be answered with a clear yes, with the advantage that you can swim with the Powerbreather at the same time and thus train your breathing technique and breathing muscles under stress. This means that the training effect for the respiratory muscles and the breathing technique (complete abdominal breathing) is increased many times over by swimming compared to using the POWERbreathe.
